Hello!
Welcome to Litopia Writers' Colony…
...one of the web's oldest and most significant independent writing communities.
The Colony - as we call it - is a very special place. It is both a vibrant literary salon and a sweatshop. You can trade bon mots here over morning coffee, and hone your manuscript in the afternoon.
The Colony is currently divided into 27 different areas of activity, encompassing pretty much every aspect of the writer's life. And we're constantly growing - the podcast being our most recent progeny.
Above all, we're most proud of our strong collegiate atmosphere. As you'll quickly discover, the Colony has an enormously distinctive and friendly ambience. This is a place where talent can be incubated, friendships forged, and careers ignited.

EmailIn one of the most devastatingly cool and exciting developments in the literary world since the birth of the English language, Litopia's new Pitch Room has opened its doors.
No, it's not a meeting place for superstar footballers to woo agents and publishers with their glittering life stories. It's a room for you - the writer - to pitch direct to Litopia's founder and literary agent Peter Cox.
Peter established Litopia Writers' Colony in 2003. Since then it has become one of the web's leading communities for writers.
‘Litopia has always been a highly experimental place,' says Peter. ‘We were the first community on the net to produce a weekly podcast for writers, which has become so successful that we now produce a daily version too. The Pitch Room continues this leading-edge approach towards meeting writers' needs.'
The Pitch Room represents a radical new way of handling the jungle that has historically been referred to in the publishing business as 'the slush pile'. It continues Litopia's tradition of encouraging positive self-criticism by fellow members - a system known informally as ‘The Houses' - by providing a simple method of submitting the finished work direct to a literary agent.
Litopia now offers its members a seamless way to create, develop, polish and ultimately submit their proposals - all without leaving the supportive atmosphere of the Colony.
In another world first for Litopia, members can actually watch Peter on video as he evaluates their work.
Peter said: 'Those who do submit work to The Pitch Room should be prepared for some straightforward comments. Anything less than honest feedback would not be useful to members.'
Access to The Pitch Room is open to Litopia's Full Members who have been part of the Colony for more than three months and who have made more than 300 posts. Membership of Litopia is free.
