The economic meltdown doesn’t seem to have slaked the torrent of weird books being published, if the current Diagram prize for the oddest book title is any measure. Bookies are already running shrewd eyes over Curbside Consultation of the Colon, Baboon Metaphysics, Strip and Knit with Style, and Excrement in the Late Middle Ages. All real titles; none of which will be discussed on tonight’s show – you’ll be pleased to hear.
Instead, we wonder why Britain’s Poet Laureate’s thinks that kid’s education is going to hell because they’re not being taught the stories from the Bible… We fret how writers can cope with information overload… We feel guilty that we don’t know what a mashup is… We feel outraged that dead authors threaten the living… And (very literally) we consider taking the piss.
All the above plus Mrs. Victoria Beckham, Sir Allen Stanford, the late and mostly unlamented Reverend Jerry Falwell, Mr & Mrs Boring – oh, and don’t forget The Commissioning Meeting, too.
On our forthrightly righteous panel tonight are Donna Ballman, Dave Bartram, John Quirk and very special guest award-winning children’s author and formerly Children’s Editor on Publishing News Graham Marks.
